Spring in Algonquin

My husband and I are great fans of Tom Thomson’s ability to capture the wild beauty of northern Ontario. When we lived in Toronto we frequently visited the Art Gallery of Ontario and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinberg.

In about 2007, I accepted his challenge to try to copy Tom Thomson’s “Spring in Algonquin” because that was one of his favorites. It is difficult to capture the layering effect of oils when using acrylic but I was not displeased with the result, and I learned quite a bit along the way concerning Thomson’s interpretation of light and shadows.
