In the Northland

In 2009 we moved to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and in 2018 purchased a log cabin home in Naramata. We needed a large painting to hang over the massive stone fireplace. After much deliberation I chose to copy Thomson’s “In the Northland” as a tribute to the northern Ontario forest where we had so often travelled by canoe. Almost 5’ across, this is by far the largest canvas I have attempted. Despite a relatively successful outcome, I still feel unprepared to interpret a raw wilderness scene with Thomson’s panache for colour.
